The Rays received Hunter Feduccia from Los Angeles and Brian Van Belle from Cincinnati
The Tampa Bay Rays have traded RHP Zack Littell to the Cincinnati Reds in a three team deal that also includes the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Rays received RHP Brian Van Belle and LHP Adam Serwinowski from the Reds and then included Serwinowski in a deal that also sent RHP Paul Gervase and catcher Ben Rortvedt to Los Angeles for catcher Hunter Fedducia.
Littell has been arguably the most dependable starting pitcher in the Rays rotation for several years while Ben Rortvedt was a solid catching option for much of the 2024 season. Meanwhile, Gervase looked to be an emerging option in the bullpen after carving through Triple-A hitters with ease.
The target of this deal for the Rays was Hunter Feduccia, a 28-year left handed hitting catcher that was blocked in the Dodgers system. Feduccia is considered a solid defensive catcher that struggles with the running game. However, his offensive performance in the minor leagues has always been above average and prior to being traded, he was hitting .290/.399/.467 with 9 HR over 333 PA in Triple-A this season.
With Feduccia and Van Belle joining the Rays, the 40-man roster remains full. The Rays will have to make two moves to fill the vacancies left on the active roster by Littell and Gervase.
The trade deadline is fastly approaching it’s 6pm deadline and the Rays are likely still active in many discussions involving most every player on the roster.
