OLDSMAR, FLA. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Rays are gearing up for the season. Mitchell High School alum and Tampa Bay native, Trevor Harrison, is headed to Rays camp in just a few weeks.
Harrison grew up going to Rays games, and he said it’s a dream come true that he is playing for his hometown team.
“It’s the most surreal feeling going to the Trop, and going to the games,” he said. “Just being a huge Evan Longoria fan wanting to wear that jersey one day. I wore it in Little League, and now I’m wearing it to play the game that I love.”
Harrison was drafted in the 5th round in 2023 by the Tampa Bay Rays.
“I was in this building when I found out,” Harrison said. “I just kind of sat there for a second and was like, ‘alright’ and I didn’t realize it, and I woke up the next morning and saw people texting me, and I was like ‘oh my gosh, this is actually happening this is crazy.”
Harrison is in Single A with the Charleston RiverDogs and he’s quickly climbing the ladder. Harrison is one of Tampa Bay’s top prospects.
“The amount of fans that are dedicated to the RiverDogs. Honestly, when I got there was like ‘Oh my gosh,’ my first outing when I got there, I’m walking back from the bullpen and people were saying my name and stuff and I’m like, ‘I’ve literally been here for eight hours. I don’t even know how these people know me right now. This is crazy,’ but that’s a special place for sure,” said Harrison.
Trevor Harrison reports to Port Charlotte for camp on Feb. 10.
