ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — Evan Longoria will be inducted into the Rays Hall of Fame next year, the team announced Wednesday.
The third-baseman recently announced his retirement, which will come after he represents the Rays for the final time next month.
Longoria will sign a one-day contract ahead of the June 7 game against the Miami Marlins, after which he will officially retire as a Tampa Bay Ray after 16 seasons in Major League Baseball.
Longoria was a three-time MLB All Star and three-time Golden Glove winner during his time with the Rays. He was named the American League Rookie of the Year in 2008 and was the 2009 AL Silver Slugger recipient. He was the second Rays player to achieve that feat.
More details regarding Longoria’s Hall of Fame induction will be announced next season.
Previous Rays Hall of Fame inductees include former Rays senior advisor Don Zimmer (posthumously), Tampa native Wade Boggs, All-Star left fielder Carl Crawford, Rays Radio broadcaster Dave Wills (posthumously) and National Hall of Fame inductee Fred McGriff.
