The contract is for two years and carries a average annual value of $1.55 million.
Last season was Holmberg’s third in the NHL. He was drafted in 2018. He was selected 156th overall in the sixth round. Since being drafted, he spent most of his time being sent up and down with the AHL Toronto Marlies. This past season was when he became a full-time NHL player.
Potential To Grow
Holmberg is going into next season as a 26-year-old, meaning he’s still in a position to grow and improve. So far, the Swedish forward has shown that he isn’t the biggest threat offensively. However, he has shown that he can be a responsible player with a shutdown role and a contributor on the penalty kill. He was used in all but one playoff game in Toronto’s 13-game postseason journey.
Even before Holmberg was drafted, he didn’t score a lot in the Swedish Hockey League. His best season was his last campaign in Sweden, when he scored 11 goals and 41 points in 46 games. Nonetheless, he can be a useful role player in the Bolts organization.
