TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The University of South Florida approved nearly $6.2 million in additional funding for projects that will lead the way for the school’s on-campus football stadium.
The university’s Board of Trustees agreed to the funding on Monday, with the university expecting to spend about $15.2 million on the new fields in total.
$3.625 million will go towards the construction of new recreation fields on the southwest side of campus, which will clear the space for the new stadium where the old recreation fields currently sit.
“Our plan is to have these fields completed on or around Thanksgiving of this year to enable access and use for the spring 2025 semester,” Jennifer Condon, who was recently named USF’s chief financial officer, said.
$2.55 million will go to permanent improvements to the new field area at USF Research Park such as water and utilities, sidewalks, and a fitness trail.
USF still needs to notify a construction company of its choice to build the new football stadium and publish an intent to award next month.
