The New York Jets Have Signed Another New Quarterback

With Sam Darnold not quite ready to return yet from his mono infection, the New York Jets are hedging their bets that he’ll be ready to return in Week 5. They’ve just signed a new quarterback who could be seeing the field sooner rather than later.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets have signed Mike White to their practice squad. White was a fifth round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2018 after playing college football at USF and Western Kentucky.

He spent his rookie year as the Cowboys’ third-string quarterback. But the Cowboys decided before the start of the 2019 season to go with just two quarterbacks, so they waived White on August 31.

White now joins a Jets team that is ailing at the quarterback position. Darnold is out with the aforementioned mono, primary backup Trevor Siemian is out for the year with a broken ankle, and backup Luke Falk doesn’t look like a short-term solution either.

Falk went 12-of-22 for 98 yards and an interception this past week against the Patriots. The Jets finished that game with just over 100 yards of offense – one of their lowest totals in franchise history.

Given how poorly Falk played in his first start against the New England Patriots, White could see the field pretty soon.

The Jets are currently on their bye week. They will return to the field in Week 5 when they take on the Philadelphia Eagles.
