The University of South Florida confirmed this Wednesday that tight end Teigan Martin has passed away at the young age of 20.
Martin was involved in a car accident on Monday in Hollywood Township, Minnesota. When the police arrived at the scene, they found a 2013 BMW M5 in a ditch. They identified Martin as the driver.
According to CBS, investigators believe Martin was driving fast when he “crossed the center line, entered the ditch and rolled the vehicle.” The investigation is still ongoing.
As you’d expect, USF is saddened by this loss. The university has extended its thoughts to the Martin family.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Teigan Martin,” USF said. “We extend our thoughts and prayers to Teigan’s family, friends, and all who knew and loved him.”
USF head coach Alex Golesh also issued a statement on this tragedy.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Teigan Martin,” Golesh said. “His loss is felt profoundly by his teammates, our coaches and staff, and all those who knew and loved him. We extend our deepest sympathies to Teigan’s family and friends, and keep them in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.”
Martin, a former star at Mayer Lutheran High School, played at Liberty in 2022 before transferring to South Florida for the 2023 season.
Our thoughts are with Martin’s loved ones during this time.
