The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two leaders on their team facing free agency, one on each side of the ball. On offense, Chris Godwin is expected to be back, but anything is possible in free agency.
PFF made two suggestions on where the Bucs wide receiver may find himself if a return to Tampa Bay does not present itself.
One connection they make is one that makes a lot of sense, the Las Vegas Raiders. They write, “The franchise hired former Buccaneers assistant general manager John Spytek to lead the franchise as its new general manager. Given Spytek’s close ties with Godwin — having been part of the regime that drafted the receiver in 2017 — he’s acutely aware of the soon-to-be 29-year-old receiver’s talent and work ethic. . .”
If a reunion with familiar faces like Tom Brady and John Spytek isn’t in the cards, PFF also likes the idea of him in Chicago. New Bears head coach Ben Johnson could use a player with Godwin’s skillset.
“New Bears head coach Ben Johnson headed up an offense in Detroit that featured a pivotal receiver dominating the slot in Amon-Ra St. Brown, and he may look to secure another here.”
Godwin’s return would be good for the Bucs, as it would help their salary cap situation. However, time will tell if that remains a possibility. The Bucs have made it clear they want him back, though, so fans should not worry yet.
