Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ contentious offseason acquisition reports to minicamp

Tampa Bay Bucs fans can breathe, Haason Reddick has entered the building.

Mandatory minicamp has officially begun for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To the surprise (and dismay) of drama-seeking headlines, Haason Reddick was in attendance.

The Buccaneers signed Reddick earlier this offseason, as a potential free agent fix for their woeful pass-rush. Calijah Kancey led the Buccaneers in sacks a season ago with 7.5, however, Tampa’s edge-rushers were led by a mere 4.5 courtesy of Yaya Diaby.

News of Reddick’s signing –as well as his absenteeism from voluntary workouts– were met with scrutiny from some, due to off-beat nature of his career trajectory. Reddick plays a premium, highly coveted position and for the better portion of his career he has played it well. Still, despite high levels of consistent success, Reddick has bounced around the league from team to team. A career that began in Arizona shifted across country to Tampa’s NFC South rival— The Carolina Panthers. In just one season with the Panthers, Reddick nabbed 11 sacks. Two-straight seasons of double-digit sacks didn’t convince Carolina to bite and Reddick was on the move again. Following his one-year stint with the Panthers, Reddick began a two-year run with the Philadelphia Eagles. Those two seasons saw continued high-level production— registering as the third and fourth consecutive years Reddick tallied double-digit sacks. Still, unable to catch on Philadelphia shipped Reddick off to the New York Jets.

To most, last season is his largest red flag. Reddick’s tenure in New York was short-lived and underwhelming. After holding out, the pass-rusher did not join the team until the end of October. Worse still, upon returning he was not an impact player. The Jets struggled as a team and Reddick was no better as an individual— Recording just one sack.

Jason Licht and company decided to bank on a return to form for a previously elite player when they scooped him up on one-year, $14 million deal.

The buzz around Reddick as a Buc has been mixed so far and while some were skeptical of his character, following the decision to not participate in voluntary workouts, the Buccaneers have consistently stated they expected Reddick to attend any and all mandatory team activities. The Tampa Bay Bucs official account on ‘X’ jumped at the opportunity to let the world know their new star pass-rusher was suited up and ready to go.

If the Buccaneers plan to go anywhere near where fans would like to see them go in 2025, Reddick figures to be a large part of the equation.
