With Leonard Fournette leaving after two years as their starter, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have room for another running back on their roster. Today, the Buccaneers filled his spot.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Bucs are signing Chase Edmonds to a one-year deal. Edmonds spent the 2022 split between the Miami Dolphins and the Denver Broncos, finishing the season with 245 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and another 157 yards and one touchdown through the air.
Edmonds began his career with the Arizona Cardinals, where he proved to be a versatile threat that could move the ball in a variety of ways. In four seasons he played 57 games, recording 2,472 yards from scrimmage and 14 touchdowns.
Judging from the reactions, Bucs fans are happy to get some more depth in the backfield. Many are still advocating for the team to still add another running back in the 2023 NFL Draft though:
Last year the running game was the Bucs’ biggest weakness by far. They finished the season ranked dead last in attempts, yards, touchdowns and yards per attempt.
Granted, the Bucs’ dedication to the passing attack probably limited their rushing prowess considerably. But they’re going to need to find balance in 2023 if they want to return to the playoffs.
Will Chase Edmonds be a star for the Bucs this year?
