Earlier this week, Mike Evans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a “soft deadline” to get a long-term contract extension done. The two side ultimately failed to reach an agreement.
Evans’ agent, Deryk Gilmore, spoke to NFL insider Jordan Schultz this Saturday about his client’s demands for the 2024 season.
As you’d expect, Evans wants to play for a Super Bowl contender. He also wants to compete alongside a top-tier quarterback.
“Mike wants to play with an elite quarterback in an offense that will showcase him — and be paid like a top wide receiver,” Gilmore told Schultz. “He doesn’t want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority.”
The Kansas City Chiefs would fit that description for Evans. And for what it’s worth, they’ve already been linked to him this offseason.
If the Buccaneers want to retain Evans, they’ll need to bring back Baker Mayfield this offseason. The former No. 1 pick had a really impressive season with Tampa Bay.
Schultz also reported this Saturday that Evans is expected to draw interest from “several teams” in free agency. That’s not a huge surprise considering how productive he’s been over the course of his career.
Evans, 30, finished this past season with 79 receptions for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns.
