Giovani Bernard has a very close relationship with Tom Brady’s former RB James White. The two went to high school together here in FL.
“[White] had only great things to say about Tom & his work ethic & everybody knows that, so it was just a no brainer,” he said of his decision.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers added yet another dynamic weapon to their offense this week, signing veteran running back Giovani Bernard to a one-year deal.
Bernard was recently granted his release by the Cincinnati Bengals after eight productive seasons as both a runner and a receiver, and he brings a much-needed three-down skill set to Tampa Bay.
A close friend of James White, who caught plenty of passes from Bucs quarterback Tom Brady during their time as teammates with the New England Patriots, Bernard told the media Wednesday that joining the Super Bowl champs was an easy decision (via Bucs team writer Carmen Vitali).
Bernard joins a crowded backfield in Tampa Bay that already features Ronald Jones II, Leonard Fournette and 2020 third-round draft pick Ke’Shawn Vaughn, but he’s sure to carve out a significant role as the Bucs look to repeat as world champs in 2021.
