Former Buccaneer takes on coaching role

William Gholston has chosen his next career after professional football.

Former Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ defensive lineman, William Gholston, has officially left professional football and moved on to his next profession. The 11-year vet played his entire career in Tampa Bay and while he did not earn a litany of individual accolades, Gholston was with the Buccaneers at their lowest and a part of their rise to glory. Gholston is a member of a very select group of Buccaneers that will be heading into the post-football phase of their lives with a Super Bowl ring— A game in which Gholston and his fellow pass-rushers were the main catalyst for a dominant Buccaneers’ victory. Tampa’s rush forced Patrick Mahomes into two interceptions and a fumble, three sacks, while making him scramble for nearly 500 yards behind the line of scrimmage over the course of one of the most lopsided Super Bowl victories in league history.

A fourth round draft pick in 2013, Gholston tallied 431 tackles, 20.5, and six total turnovers in his professional career— Including an interception against Josh Allen in 2023.

Gholston’s Tampa Bay career is unlikely to be remembered for a long list of highlights and game-breaking plays. Gholston was a supporting character, who was on some truly awful teams, as well as some of the greatest teams in franchise history. An underrated Buccaneer by most, but a buccaneer who deserves respect. Congratulations to William Gholston on opening the next chapter of life, we here at SB Nation wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavours.
