Could this be the year that Mike Evans finally moves on from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers? It’s certainly possible.
Evans’ agent, Deryk Gilmore, told NFL insider Jordan Schultz that his client wants to play with an “elite quarterback” next season. The Pro Bowler also wants to compete for a Super Bowl.
“Mike wants to play with an elite quarterback in an offense that will showcase him — and be paid like a top wide receiver,” Gilmore said. “He doesn’t want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority.”
Evans is set to be a free agent this month. He should command top dollar, especially since he had 1,255 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns this past season.
Fans are already speculating about Evans’ future. Most of them believe he should sign with the Kansas City Chiefs so he can catch passes from Patrick Mahomes.
“Big Mike…you are a Chief,” a fan said.
“I know a team that has the most talented QB ever and desperately needs a WR1,” a Chiefs fan tweeted.
“Welp we know where he is going,” another fan wrote while posting a GIF of Mahomes.
“Welcome to the Kansas City Chiefs,” another person replied.
Schultz reported that Evans will receive interest from “several teams” in free agency. That seems like a no-brainer.
The Chiefs have their own free agents to take care of, specifically L’Jarius Sneed and Chris Jones. However, if they want to improve their receiving corps, they should consider going after Evans.
