Moments ago, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero announced that Baker Mayfield is signing with the Buccaneers for the 2023 season.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated provided an update on Mayfield’s contract with the Buccaneers. It’s a one-year, $4 million deal that has a max value of $8.5 million.
After seeing the terms of Mayfield’s contract, it’s fair to say this was a bargain for the Buccaneers.
Even if Mayfield doesn’t return to his 2020 form, he’ll give Tampa Bay a quarterback capable of starting all 17 games if Kyle Trask isn’t ready to handle the gig.
Mayfield looked abysmal with the Panthers early in the 2022 season, no one will deny that. However, he had some nice games with the Rams to close out the year.
In five games with the Rams, Mayfield completed 63.6 percent of his passes for 850 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions.
We’ll see if Mayfield can revitalize his career in Tampa. It’ll certainly help that his wide receivers are Mike Evans, Russell Gage and Chris Godwin.
