TAMPA, FLA. (WFLA) — The obvious need for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is on defense. Specifically, an edge rusher to compliment the new addition of former Jets LB/DE Haason Reddick, who was just signed in free agency.
“We do need help on defense, and it would be fun to see us improve there, and I think we will without really making any huge changes. We’re going to be better, obviously. Getting some new players will make it a lot better,” said Bucs General Manager Jason Licht.
The Bucs would ideally draft an edge rusher in the first round at 19 overall, but if not, there has been great production from players in the later rounds.
“I’d say it goes beyond the third round. My staff and the coaches have done a great job. The last three years, those drafts were elite. We’re going to try and keep doing it. It doesn’t always work out that way, but I think this particular draft seems more leveled out, which I’m excited about,” said Licht.
The Bucs also say they are not opposed to drafting a different position in the first round, even on offense, like wide receiver.
“We’re not going to overlook that position at all if it falls that way for us, we could always use more receivers,” said Licht.
