The Bucs and their fans had two press conferences to watch on Monday. Liam Coen’s was with the Jaguars, and John Spytek’s was with the Raiders. If you had watched both, you would have seen a clear difference between them, as one was gracious to their former team while the other couldn’t have distanced himself more.
That leads us to our point with this piece: Bucs fans will want to hear what new Raiders general manager Jon Spytek had to say.
When John Spytek was speaking to the media, making his opening statement, he made it clear how thankful he was to be in the opportunity he was. Despite the enormity of the situation, what wasn’t lost on him was how much his time in Tampa Bay shaped him.
“I wanna thank the Glazer family, too, for having me the last nine years. It was an awesome opportunity to work for a great franchise. They are an awesome ownership group and they gave us all the resources to do our job well. I am proud of what we accomplished there.”
The credit didn’t end there with Spytek, the comments he gave regarding Bucs general manager Jason Licht should bring a smile to your face.
“Jason Licht, my boss for the last nine years in Tampa, believing in me when I was a young scout in Philadelphia, giving me a chance at a young age to help lead a franchise. . .I worked every day to make him proud.”
There can be no bigger compliment to a workplace than when the people who work for you try to make you proud every day. Spytek leaving will be a personal and professional loss to the Bucs front office.
The Bucs loss is the Raiders gain, though.
