Bucs’ Baker Mayfield is being forgotten about in the NFL’s MVP race

January 1, 2025 by Bucs Wire

The NFL and the MVP Award are among the highest, most sought after achievements in all of sports. Much like the MVP Award in the NBA and NHL or Ballon d’Or Awar in soccer, it tells the world you are the best player in the world.

Getting the MVP Award in the NFL isn’t an easy feat to get but it is one that can leave players forgotten, like Baker Mayfield.

According to BetMGM, betting odds favor quarterbacks for six of the seven favorites. None of those six are Baker Mayfield, and why not? The Bucs are still fighting for a playoff spot but the award does ask for the most valuable player in the league with a mix of the best season into it.

When you look at what Mayfield has brought to the Bucs, they would be nowhere near the playoffs without him.

Apart from winning the NFC South, this is where Mayfield sits in major passing categories heading into Week 18 of the 2024 NFL Season.

  • Third in passing with 4,279 yards
  • Second in completion percentage with 71.8%
  • Second in passing touchdowns with 39
  • Fourth in quarterback rating with 107.6

Baker Mayfield and the Bucs have been overlooked all year; it is expected at this point. Despite that, the Bucs couldn’t be happier controlling their destiny now. Mayfield isn’t worried about the awards and stats, he just wants to win football games. With a win on Sunday in Week 18 against the New Orleans Saints, Mayfield and the Bucs will win the NFC South for the fourth year in a row.

That is the bigger picture and prize Mayfield is worried about but he has earned more.
