When the Tampa Bay Buccaneers take the field Saturday night for a preseason tilt with the Tennessee Titans at Raymond James Stadium, their first-round pick will have a new name on the back of his jersey.
Joe Tryon-Shoyinka is the name Bucs fans will see on the back of their new pass-rushers jersey. Tryon-Shoyinka wore both names on his jersey while playing in college at Washington, and after sporting just “Tryon” on the back throughout training camp and his preseason debut, “Shoyinka” has now made it on to his jersey at the pro level, as well.
Tryon-Shoyinka displays both names to pay tribute to both sides of his family, per ESPN’s Jenna Laine:
Bucs first-round draft pick @joe_tryon officially changed his jersey name to “Tryon-Shoyinka” yesterday. His Bucs jersey just said “Tryon” before, but “Tryon-Shoyinka” is what his jersey said in college and will say in the NFL. He’s doing it to honor both sides of his family.
