It isn’t very common for any team to have consistency in the NFL without some growing pains along the way. For the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they have won four division titles in a row, albeit without a deep playoff run to show for it.
As we head into the 2025 season, are the Bucs finally set for a regression after years of consistency?
Within the poll conducted by ESPN with their various NFL-related analysts, one question that was asked was, “Which team will take a step back in the 2025 season?”
Two analysts within the pole shared there pick to be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Kalyn Kahler wrote that she saw them regressing due to the emergence of the Carolina Panthers down the stretch, as well as Michael Penix Jr.
“Carolina could be building something with Bryce Young, and Michael Penix Jr. is ready to boost the Falcons, so competition in the NFC South will take a step up this season.”
Eric Moody also chose the Bucs, citing their overhauled coaching staff.
“The NFC South won’t be as easy for the Buccaneers in 2025 like it was in 2024. Mayfield will have another new offensive coordinator, and hitting on three straight OC hires is rare.”
Both are very valid points by their analysts. While the offensive coordinator issue may be an easier fix, the emergence of young talent within the division is troublesome.
Having playmakers take the ball away from young quarterbacks while they develop, though, should keep the scales tipped in the Bucs’ favor early on in 2025.
