Andy Reid Reveals What Tom Brady Told Patrick Mahomes Back In 2019

While their final postseason battle took place in Super Bowl LV, Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes had a real heart-to-heart about Mahomes’ place in the NFL’s future a full two years before.

Speaking to NFL Network, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said that Brady told Mahomes that he was “turning the keys over” to him after their 2018 AFC Championship tilt. Reid said that Brady came to the Chiefs’ locker room to show Mahomes some respect after the New England Patriots’ 37-31 overtime victory.

“I was there when Tom Brady said, ‘I’m turning the keys over to you,'” Reid told NFL Network, via Fox Sports. “He did it right in our locker room. And so I think Tom is as proud as anybody.”

“He makes the difficult look easy at the highest possible level in the whole world… There’s only 32 in the whole world, and he’s the special of the special. I watched Tom Brady turn the keys over to him, which was cool. Tom said, ‘Hey, this is your league now, man.’

“Patrick’s humble, he’s competitive, he’s a great teammate, good father. He does it the right way. It’s great for young guys to see. It’s not just God-given. It’s what you do with what God gives you. Every day he comes in the huddle, he goes, ‘Let’s be great today.’ Every day. You know he means it.”

Tom Brady won two of his seven Super Bowls with Mahomes serving as an obstacle in his path, further cementing him as the greatest quarterback of all-time.

But with three Super Bowls of his own before his 29th birthday, Mahomes has now decisively proven that he is the best quarterback in the NFL today.

Luckily for Mahomes, he could have anywhere from 10 to 15 or more years to try and match Brady’s incredible Super Bowl mark.
